Dr. Nicole Lynch
Dr. Nicole Lynch, Registered Counselling Psychologist
Hi, I’m Dr Nicole Lynch, a Registered Counselling Psychologist in Barbados with 19 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
I provide counselling and psychotherapy for clients experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological, behavioural, and relationship concerns. My areas of work include anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting challenges, behavioural concerns, school-related difficulties, identity exploration, relationship challenges, and major life transitions.
ABOUT Nicole
“My approach to therapy is warm, empathetic, curious, and non-judgmental. I believe everyone deserves a safe and supportive space where they can feel understood, explore their experiences, and work towards meaningful and lasting change.”
Child and Adolescent Therapy
I work with children and adolescents who may be struggling with emotional, behavioural, social, or school-related concerns. I also support parents and families who are navigating parenting challenges, family conflict, transitions, or concerns about a young person’s wellbeing.
Adult Therapy
With adults, I work with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, identity, stress, parenting, and changes in personal or professional life. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, processing difficult experiences, trying to reconnect with yourself, or seeking healthier relationships, therapy can provide an opportunity to gain insight, strengthen coping skills, and move forward with greater clarity.
Couples Therapy
I also work with couples. My couples work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and I have completed an EFT Externship. This training supports my work with couples experiencing conflict, emotional disconnection, communication difficulties, and other relationship challenges.
Trauma-Focused Therapy and EMDR
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and provide trauma-focused therapy for clients affected by distressing or traumatic experiences. EMDR helps inform my work with clients whose past experiences continue to affect their emotions, relationships, sense of safety, and everyday functioning.
I am currently completing Six Seconds EQ Educator certification, further developing my knowledge of emotional intelligence and its application to emotional awareness, relationships, wellbeing, and personal growth.
Education and Professional Experience
My professional experience spans private practice, schools, out-of-school programmes, residential homes for children in care, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation centres. This varied background has deepened my understanding of how personal history, family relationships, school environments, and wider life circumstances can influence mental and emotional wellbeing.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Specialised Honours from York University, a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with a School Counselling Specialisation from Trinity Western University, a Doctor of Education in Early Childhood Education from Walden University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Special Needs, with Distinction, from Erdiston Teachers’ Training College. I am also a former Organisation of American States Scholar.
Training and Community Work
Beyond my clinical work, I am a Certified Positive Discipline Educator, part-time lecturer, and workshop facilitator across Barbados and the Caribbean. My training and facilitation work has included school-wide discipline, child protection, social and emotional skills, behavioural change, parenting, and educator wellbeing.
I am particularly passionate about supporting the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and other educators and enjoy co-hosting an annual teacher wellbeing retreat.
My Approach to Therapy
At the heart of my work is the belief that healing and growth are possible. I aim to build therapeutic relationships grounded in empathy, trust, collaboration, and respect, where clients can safely explore difficult experiences without judgment and develop greater self-understanding and healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
My practice is LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and I welcome clients across different sexual orientations, gender identities, family structures, cultures, and backgrounds.
I provide therapy through The Relational Practices for clients in Barbados and across the Caribbean region.
Beyond Therapy
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, singing along to musicals, travelling, discovering new restaurants with friends, drinking my daily cups of tea, and spending time with my husband and daughter.
